What I did is put ALL my music and audio tracks on a high capacity USB stick which now lives permanently in the console's USB socket. No need for CarPlay of any sort as all my music is always on tap.

Have 115Gb of WMA lossless music files on a USB stick in the VF console.
The Nav database might be hopelessly 'out of date', but so far it hasn't let me down.

I did that back in 2013 when I got my first VF Calais V. Apple car play is the best addition I have added to the car since buying it.

Yeah, it would be nice to update the maps but it is what it is.
As for music, it dates all the way from 1700s up to about 1990. (I have a rather eclectic taste) Anything much after that isn't worth listening to in my humble opinion although there have been a couple I like.

EDIT: That doesn't mean i don't like older music, it's just what i listened to then.
