I don't know if it's the cold weather or not but I had noticed some noises when turning the steering wheel at slow speeds. Like the faster you move the steering the faster the clanks are. Coming from infront of the passengers footwell somewhere inside. Anyone else have similar noise or vibrations? It had done it before but now it's more noticeable than ever.

Simplest way to drop photos into threads is to get an Imgur account (or something similar). You just upload the photos there, then when you open the photos they give you all the codes and things required to attach them to forum threads and what not. you can even select the size you want it to show up as before you copy the link. Works an absolute treat.....

I shall give it a try to use the mobile phone to record the noise, see how it goes as I can't even upload photos. Hard to teach old dog new tricks..

Update on "pinging" noises. Perhaps I should say "matallic clicking noises" as Holden strongly denied anything wrong with the ute. Holden Customer Cares just called saying it is normal to have such noises and nothing wrong with it. The guy from Holden must have repeated hundred of time saying it is "normal" and nothing further could be done. At the end I told him that if owners aren't happy with the vehicles, then Holden needs to "investigate" the matter further, not point keep saying it is "normal"...No doubt Holden wil not do anything from now on, I will have to accept that my ute comes with a group of rattle snakes having a party under it.
They told you the same thing too. That's why i went to get a 2nd opinion but it was same.
I think they don't even know where is the noise from and how to fix.
Better go to see a non-holden mechanic.
All the best and enjoy driving with ute.

Thanks "waynebatt" for the tips on uploading photos, perhaps it is easier to ask my teenager kids to do it for me instead. As to the "matallic clicking noises", I googled "engine pinging'" and it described the noises/situations exactly to a T. Since I am using the "suggested" grade of 98 petrol and the engine is not running "hot", therefore the only possibility is the ERG (exhuast gas recirculation)..but then Holden insist it is "normal" to have such noises, they aren't going to do anything about it. I will first try to go back the original 91 petrol as the factory used, then the other option is ask the dealer workshop to check the ERG. If all fail, then I will take the ute to a specialised tunning workshop to "retune" the engine at my own expenses. So much for the Holden Customer Cares, really should be "Lack of Customer Cares"...

This is where you look like a backyard mechanic trying to tell the dealer how to do their job. The LS motors used in the Australian market DON'T HAVE EGR systems.

As for nobody finding your "issue", are there any drivability issues, no. Are there any errors set in the control module, no. Do other vehicles do the same thing, yes. So either deal with it or do everyone involved a favour and go buy another Ford.

Guess I have touched someone' nerve by persisting the "pinging" noises. But good to know there aren't any ERG in the motor. No one wants to be "back yard mechanic" but when Holden Customer Cares doesn't care, I can only "Google" to find the reason why and try to "deal" with it. I do apologize to "everyone" or just the one for boring you with the issue, I thought this thread is free to talk about any issue, unless the Moderator decides otherwise, I shall express my personal opinions. Anyway, the next step is to arrange a test drive with the dealer in another same model vehicle to see if such noises are "normal' in all vehicles. I am surprised that the dealer workshop hasn't offered to have such test drive just to show me that it is "normal" to have such noises. It would certainly close the matter in no time.

You should go and test drive a couple other ones yourself just to put your mind at ease.

Just walk into a dealer and pretend you wanna buy one. At least you know it will be unbiased if you drive a couple of random cars from different dealerships.

When not in Sports mode, the autobox seems a bit dithery; for example, takes a while to change gears if you stomp it, or you're trying to use only moderate acceleration up a steepish hill.
Not necessarily any better than the 4spd in our VS, at times.
Do we need a software upgrade or some-such? It's an MY14, Septemberish build.

Had my car serviced and had movement of the seat - Glen waverley holden did the clips and it seems to be fine now!

I know what you mean!! mostly in drive is it a bit "Dithery" but also noticed these VF SS 6 speed auto cars do not like high RPM Gear shifts. I will sound like a mega bogan here but has anyone tried a 1St gear burnout, say like at a drag strip then gone to shift second like a power skid and it literally does nothing but bog down? Couple of tuner company's say these gearboxes have a lot of torque reduction between gears to save gearbox, is this the case? and if so why does my mates bog stock Auto VE SS ute happily smoke first into second no issues on same 275 tyres? and yes I know the ute is lighter over the rear axle, can anyone out there with a manual drop clutch in second and powerskid for arguments sake?? I would be interested to see if a gear box flash tune would make a difference. Cheers.
