Hi, Recently I slipped over in the rain and dropped my key, which someone duly ran over. It seemed to work OK, but stopped working very soon thereafter. With a battery change, it works for a short while (i.e. a minute or so), and then stops again. I am using my other key, but want to pull the broken one apart to see if a new outer key case ($28.80 on Ebay) would fix things. There is no issue getting at the battery, but further disassembly to get at the PCB and buttons is eluding me. I don't want to get too aggressive with it if I can find the easy way to pull it apart. I have searched for help, but only find instructions for the VE, which are not applicable to VF keys. Anyone able to help?
Don't risk it - chuck it in the bin - would you like to be 100's of Km from home and find your key doesn't work? Been there, done that, I learned the hard way ..
I agree for the cost of another key just pay for a new one. most likely the internals are broken aswel due to being run over.
i broke the flip on mine not too long ago and toke it to Holden and they said it like $415 (for an auto, manual is cheaper because it doesn't have auto start) for the key!! luckily enough the second key was already broke when i got the car so Holden toke both the keys and gave me new ones under "warranty" because they were "faulty" when really only 1 was faulty Take it to your local dealer and see they might be able to do something for you!
I expect that most will not have a similar problem, but I went ahead and bought the after market case to give it a try. Sub-$30 beats $400 odd any day. Pulling the key that had been run over apart was not easy, maybe because the case had been bent. I basically had to break it up to get it apart. Once I had the PCB out, installing it in the new case and reassembly was easy. Works 100% now.
