I was amazed to see 32 SS motorsport commodores on car sales. 24 out of these are private sales and mostly with super low kilometers.

They range from 55k to 95k with cars around 60k as an average

Why are people getting rid of these in general ?

Redbook says dealers sell them $45,200 - $49,100 and private is $38,600 - $42,500

It seems they depreciated far more than other SS variants....

Old habits die hard. People are used to trading their cars every 2-3 years. Redbook values are irrelevant really. They would apply the same methodology as for any other VF V8 variant. Just with a higher original price tag.

Redbook is a dealers guide that undervalues cars, (CV8 Monaro $18K), Carsales is for dreaming (CV8 Monaro $25K > $80K)
The truth is somewhere in between.
Motorsports .... speculators and investments gone wrong once the glitz and hype of 'the last' has worn off.

I tend to agree with figjam that the hype has worn off.

After a while the enthusiasts will start to take an interest in what worth owning and they may go dam busters and being limited editions will give them a head start but it’s still too early to tell.

If I was a betting man I’d say they’ll eventually fair better than the run of the mill SS & Redlines and the entry level HSV’s.

Trouble is us Commodore lovers are a dying breed.

Way overpirced.
People buy these cars thinking they are going to go up in value instantly and thats not how it works, they arent, and even if they did it wouldnt be for a longgggg time,i agree that they are worth more than a stock ss etc but they also cost alot more at purchase time.
Just in general people are asking absolutely stupid prices for some cars.
Nice cars but not rare.
Redbook is pretty far off on rare/popular cars, but in general they arent too far off real life prices on your average car.

As Cuda says I think a lot of it is the 2-3yr trade in thing. Many people want the latest and greatest(whatever that means with vehicles these days?). As time moves on not many of us in the cities in particular have the storage or means in general to maintain an ageing car particularly when say a two income household can only accomodate at most two vehicles....both become daily drives and the ‘keeper’ becomes less of a priority or possibility.

I'd debate the overpriced generilsation. Including options, mine was $7k more than a Redline and I got a butt tonne more than $7k extra value.
