The likes of Alpine & Bose have been doing this for decades now ... I remember being a little wow'd when the ED Fairmont Ghia got an Alpine system, but then when you looked at the underside of the parcel-shelf the magnets were still tiny even though they were Alpine branded. Back then, Alpine & Bose & probably others wouldn't retail something as low-end as a manufacturer would fit to one of their "high end" models ...
I remember half of what little boot an FD RX7 had being filled with Bose subwoofer-related tubing ... but it didn't sound as good as if you bought some mid-spec Sony gear & installed it.
I can't answer fully ... except I looked up the workshop manual, and only one of the three "entertainment" setups has a centre channel.
My guess, and this is not founded in knowledge at all, is that when you get the Bose system you also get a centre channel (which is better for sound quality), but there's a grille in that spot in all Commodores regardless of which system it is.
The manual talks about UQA, UQG and UQF entertainment setups; I can't see any reference to which is which, or what's fitted to what, though.
Ok thanks... i'm thinking of getting it disconnected (as is does emit sound when the radio is playing) when i upgrade my speakers and add a sub/amp in the boot.
