I am looking at replacing my battery 2015 July build, Series 1, SV6 sedan.

The battery is held down by a clamp bolted to the battery carrier.

The battery is also held from above with a fabric strap extending from the battery carrier over to the metalwork that holds the fuse block etc.

The existing acdelco is CCA525; RC 105min C20 60AH, ventilation on LHS.

The dimensions of the original battery are L=240. Width 170mm and height 175mm.

An appealing battery is a acdelco S57220

L=277mm; Width 174mm; height 188mm.

Does the battery metal base have to be changed to fit the S57220 which is longer by 37mm? (There appears to be another hole in the base plate which could cater for the longer battery).

The height is 188mm versus original 175mm. Difference about 13mm in height.

Is there a longer fabric tied down required to suit the bigger battery?

Thanks in advance

I’ve put 2x s57220s in both the significant others sedan & my wagon
Having said that, both were series II - I can’t see the battery tray changing dimensions between series
Just remember to affix the battery vent tube - don’t let anyone say it’s not required because it most certainly is

If you want a bigger battery then fit the 1 suited for V8

The S57220 is fine to fit on the existing slot with existing strap; you won’t need to worry! Many people here have fitted this battery and it’s probably the best battery to use unless you have dash cams or other devices powered during parking mode.

Make sure when replacing your battery, if the new S57220 does not come with the vent holes plugged on both sides, that you use a flat blade screwdriver or similar and lever out the plug on the right hand side of your old battery, and push that into place on the right side of your new battery.

You can fit a bigger battery using the second anchor point
