Maps are just one thing on MyLink. It still offers very good connectivity.

Phones: Galaxy S9 + Apple 10 (brother's), Apple 10 [Niece 1], Apple 9 [Niece 2]; all 4 Bluetooth connected on entry. Niece 2, here yesterday, is with Police in Victoria so does not connect Bluetooth or messaging because of confidentiality.
16gigglebite USB in console box with MP3 music as source. 12v adaptor with additional 2 USB ports in cargo bay if needed.
Not fussed about messaging — "indexing"???; pax will read msg while I'm driving and dictate response if required.
Not fussed about maps; got an 8" tablet under seat for ready reference to Google maps!

I need to try out streaming from a phone.
The random music is just that. Sometimes it will be sat for days and remember. Other times it will change music folder after a fuel fill up!

no indexing message on start, random music issues (shuffle over entire playlists used but tracks are in folders per-album).

I don't stream from the 'phone most of the time because the sound quality is lower, and it's noticeable even with the non-BOSE sound-system.

Pretty sure I got a 32GB USB3.0 (its a mini one so i don't knock it when going into the glove box)
USB primary music source, indexes every car start also random music issues.
All music on USB is Artist>Album>MP3 files. "Songs" Selected from the Mylink menu and random is on.

Another interesting thing (maybe) Last Saturday morning (after car sat all night) i removed USB stick with car off and removed/added some music. Later that day started car to go out and forgot i had USB in my pocket, put it in and it started indexing then played the song from previous day, even automatically turned random on like it knew it was the same USB stick or something? I remember in my VE when you took the USB stick out and put it back in it started playing from Song1 Folder1 and you had to turn random on again, it never picked up where it left off previously.

You lot should probably be including the software version of the mylink because it might be related to that.

Samsung Galaxy A30
128gb USB (115gb WMA lossless files in folders) Tiny Sandisk drive.
Primary music source.
Mylink indexes every start.
No 'random' music issues, sometimes when starting, FM will play and a message about error with USB.
Unplug and replug the stick, and it finds the last file played.

good idea, does anyone reckon we need a dedicated thread to discuss this and maybe we can crowdsource a commonality in the musical madness?

the VF was just a generation too soon, which in hindsight is a big loss.
