VF throttle body service ?!

Just remember with these electronic throttles they say you shouldn't move the butterfly by hand to clean it. Get your wife to hold her foot on the throttle while you wipe a spray out the throttle body! Good as gold in 5 minutes.

Would it be sufficient to disconnect the plug prior to cleaning ?

When I owned Subaru's, I used to use the Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner religiously to clean the throttle body and intake. I found a few cans in my garage, so used one on the weekend. Worked wonders on my Redline, maybe it's placebo but my Redline feels smoother/eager to go if you know what I mean.

Majority gets sprayed into the intake manifold. Wait 10mms or so, start car and then spray the rest of can into vacuum port with engine running (my wife kept the revs up). Switch car off, wait another 10mms and then take for a drive. To clean the throttle body, I sprayed onto a cloth and cleaned the blades and body as best as I could.

Follow directions on the can

Every time I take the car to the dealer for service they ask if I wanted them to clean the throttle body...
I say no...

The car is about to click 40 000km...
Does the TB really need to be cleaned if the car runs well ?

This sounds to me like another quick money grabbing scheme by the dealer ?

I get mine done with the blinker fluid change inc for free, FFS auto mobs think we are dumb. Took lads car to bob jane for wheel alignment other day and told me my battery is on the way out, its 3 months old mate wtf.

No that doesn't help. It's very easy to do with ignition switched to reds and an assistant holding foot flat on the gas pedal. Like when the doctor says, Say AHHHH
Apparently manually working the butterfly runs the risk of stuffing the mechanism inside.

Jam a stick between the drivers seat and throttle pedal.

Did this on Mazda 3 tonight.
The car did 40 000km and it was never cleaned. Negligible amount of carbon in the back of the throttle body...
Will check Commodore tomorrow ..
