Best average for 100km is 8 flat which was out on the Hume somewhere, and this weekend of heavy inner west Syd driving managed to get that up to a worst of 23.... But I didn't buy the car assuming I would get great fuel economy!

Typical full average would be around the 14-15 mark for the time I've owned it

So further to my previous post I did Murrurundi to scone NSW, some err "competitive driving" on some back roads, then charlestown square and filled up at shell in Sutton forest on the Hume. 513km as measured on Google Earth (don't forget all our speedos are out and thus your displayed consumption is on the conservative side). Put in 66 lt for a burn of 12.9 with the majority being freeway at 110. Went to fill up with 98 but they wanted $1.70 so I chucked in some 94 octane e10 to see how it went.

Next leg from the Servo to shell at hay south, 580km and put in 62.5 lt at hay. So 10.8 l/100 all done at 110 (114 indicated) on pretty much flat road and an outside temp 20o cooler than the first trip Brisbane to Murrurundi where I got

Final leg hay to Mildura, dead flat country side 16o temp and cruise control at 110 except for the few km of towns and back on shell 98 again (as it was 22c cheaper in the middle of nowhere than it was on the Hume just south of Sydney..) distance of 289km and used 34lt so all I can say is wtf 11.8 l/100..

If anyone can explain getting 9.8 during a run in drive in the city then hills with a heap of road works on a 38o day and then 11.8 on cruise control across the hay plain at 16o at night feel free to enlighten me! Better economy on 94 octane e10 as well.. I'll keep the experiment going and try to find some patterns but at the moment it'll probably be getting a flogging so fuel burns irrelevant.

2017 01 28 1982 Fuel Consumption Guide AGPS M600.jpg
Hi All,

I don't want to highjack the fuel economy discussion but I came across some old booklets recently, and the fuel cycles of our 35 year old commodore, the VH 3.3L and 4.2L came to light, so I thought I would share it with you.

The VF has larger capacity engines, weighs more, and has CCAC and MyLink. The cost of fuel in 1982 was about 55c - 65c / Litre (?). The table suggests the minimum octane rating for each engine. Was Super 97 octane, and was Standard 89 ? Was there a middle octane of 92?

The present V8 gets in reality maybe similar fuel economy figures to the 4.2litre's cycles, but the whole car is a major improvement as I see it.

In passing a VH manual 2.8 Litre, on Super 97, was 7L highway, City 12L

And a VH manual 1.9 Litre, on Super 97, was 6.2L highway, City 9.5L

Moderator: This is a free booklet, published by the AGPS, title Fuel Consumption Guide 1982. Can this be placed on the site with no issues.

I did a run to Melbourne from Warrnambool for some meetings yesterday, drove around the city, then out to the Eastern suburbs for the night, then back through Melbourne in peak hour this morning, more meetings the back home, just under 700k round trip, filled up before I left home and again when I got home, average speed just over 70km/h, 8.84 L/100k. Pretty happy with that.

VF2 SSV 6.2L Manual
When I first got my VF2 I was struggling to keep it out of the 16's after 1700km on the trip reset (https://forums.justcommodores.com.a...8-fuel-consumption.252546/page-7#post-2864208)

However, after resetting the average fuel consumption I've managed to keep it around the 13.5 mark, another 1800km later. It blips up to 13.6 if I'm having a bit of fun, but comes back down to 13.5 after I drive it normally for a while. Pretty happy with that as it is pretty much all around town with maybe one 70km freeway trip every 2 months.

My manual Redline is sitting around 12L/100k at the moment, but was around 13.5 average. I have just returned from a 3,500km round trip where I averaged around 9L/100km on the highways/freeways. Amazing to get almost 800km out of a tank.

500ish kms from new and I'm sitting somewhere around 14.5-15l/100 and ave speed of mid 30s. All town/semi rural driving so far. Best of 14.1/100kms, would no doubt get better on the open road (my mates does 8.9 hwy) but my utes for weekend/week off work fun runs so don't expect epic fuel economy.
