im gearing up to do a vg 5L conversion To a Buick 3800 vg ute factory s pack supposedly.
i already have the following parts already:
vp ss 5L auto engine including harness and accessories
borg Warner T5 manual box less the bell housing
vg ute rolling shell
VS live axle and lsd
VP ss 5L K-frame

i Have a few questions regarding the manual side of things:
will a Buick 3800 slave Cylinder suit the t5?
will i need a crank adapter to fit the flywheel as the engine was originally auto?
will The buick radiator be too small for a 5L?
are VS ute tailshafts the same as VG?
cheers for any help guys

v6 t5 will suck if plan to put it behind 304...first gear way too short....ford 6cyl t5 & conversion kit work better...keep your vss + speedo wiring etc

t5 are cable getrag is hydraulic mainly from vs series 3 utes.

spigot bush required if putting engine was out of auto donor car.

swap radiator out for vs series 3 v8 raditor,vs v6 slimline thermofan...have fans activated correct temp in memcal...need wiring with vs fan to join to vg wiring, slightly different wiring just works out easier.

remember most of v8 air con & p/steer lines + other things differ to v6

check all wiring plugs match what they go into...very early vn may have some different pinouts so guessing vg could be too.

That's enough info to get yourself into trouble.

The input shaft between V6 and V8 gearboxes are apparently different, so if you're using a V6 box there's a high chance it won't work. Crank flanges for auto and manual 304s should be exactly the same.

The tailshafts can be used interchangeably between VN-VS, but the manual and auto tail shaft lengths and yokes are different. Really you only need to get your hands on the front half of a manual tail shaft with yoke and join it to a rear ute half. You might get lucky and just be able to change the yoke on the auto shaft.

Heard/read the front halves were different lengths...went from vp v6/t5 to vs 304/4l60e driveline & auto tailshaft was better condition so never bothered to check lengths.

the gearbox Is a t5 for a 304 checked the spline count and seems to match up, being cable clutch I shouldn’t have to change that in any way because the shell itself was manual already is that correct?

Length of input shaft & measuring distances between bolt holes where bellhousing bolts up to gearbox tells you what gearbox is from & bellhousing required..then can count spline.T5 came out of several different models....different bellhousings & gearing.

Not sure on clutch cable you'd have to measure if different although probably is.

Bellhousing you'd have to try dellows, mal woods or crs.

Memcal cost $180 if go ebay/facebook to Ace Performance Tuning....say what car is,want thermofan activated as through ecu & tune to run on 98 with basic exhaust mods/airbox...be silly not to do basic mods while it's apart anyway.

If can't get bellhousing sell off what you have but much cheaper & more common ford 6cyl t5 & conversion.
