VH Commodore
Hi guys, I picked up a VH SL 202, with Auto a few weeks back.

I’ve noticed on occasion, when shifting from drive into neutral, a clunk noise coming from the rear.

I had a VC SLE years ago, and noticed a similar sound. I’m not an expert by any means, can someone shed some light on what it would be? Diff?

Put it up on some jack stands & start with the basics.

Check driveshaft bolts, centre bearing, uni etc, wheel bearings, wheel nuts, rear control arms & bushings. Check for increased play in rear axle components, check trans fluid level & discolouration. Flex plate & converter bolts.

If the car is at a stand still when shifting and clunks when disengages then you have play in your driveshaft or diff gears, Its not idling to high is it? Check the uni-joints and so on could be a worn cup, jack her up and place some stands under her and turn that shaft while in park and look for worn parts. Do what sale yards do throw a banana skin in the diff, lol. Good luck.
