You need A fuel flow sensor and i think it needs to be used in conjunction with the trip meter i'm not sure i'll be looking to get one of them and give it a shot.

i ran a wire from the coil just to make sure... clean wire means i know its gonna work... nizmovk. do you get anything? i have a feeling if it doesnt work then the nissan engine uses a positive pulse to run the tacho. before you took the vl dash out was there a tacho? if not then the loom may not have a tacho wire in it. vh's (and i will assume vk's are similar) run from the neg side of the coil... guessing here but vl engine doesnt? i dont know this may help solve it if you play around a bit. i was so proud when i got mine going

the way i gave it a test to see if its generally ok is in neutral rev it till it hits the limiter (bad for it but i only did it once i spose) and see where the needle bounces... it did it just before 6 which is where the red line starts. good enough for me im not too picky i just wanted a rough idea and it looks better than the manifold gauge... the thing i do find a bit annoying is the slowish reaction time of the needle... is yours slugish? mines ok but ive defintately seen quicker
