vh efi not starting

wrote this in another forum should have put in here. i've got a vh commodore with efi v8. was playing around with the tacho trying to get the standard one in the dash to work. at one stage i had the coil wire disconected. other than that i haven't played with anything. but now it doesn't start. car will wind over but there is no spark at all. nothing. what could i have done? auto elec told me i was going to need to tow the thing to him to find out the problem! cant be that hard. computor? an unnoticed wire fallen off somewhere?
any help will will be a huge favour. cheers.
