Hi all,
I have a VH with an, L31 M21. The engine number starts with V9. Is this normal?

More cars than I've got space to park!
Nope, an option code "L31" in a VH should have a "VT" prefix.

Is it the original engine and/or has it been decked and re-stamped?

Other than the numbers being of centre how would you know, and why would it be restamped?

Block could of been decked and no number put back in, engine is a stolen and recovered one.
V9 with numbers then B isn't a factory stamp.

~ why would it be restamped?

As I said in my post, it is very common to have the block decked during a rebuild and machine the engine number off completely.

Sometimes the machine shop restamps the original number, but if they don't you would need to get a "Police number" issued.

Last letter is B. Why would they do that bud?

The fact that it has a letter at the end at all suggests it has been restamped at some stage.

There were a very small number of blocks that left the factory with an "R" at the end to signify a "repeat" number but certainly no "B".

Yep, sounds like a Police Number.

The last letter is always a "P" (for "Police") and the prefix letter is the first letter of the state in which they were issued, so yours would've been issued by VicPol.

From memory the year they were issued is incorporated in there somewhere as well.
