won't be the switch. If it was the switch, nothing would happen at all.
It's an earth problem
often people forget to fit the tail light earth wire if they've had the lights out.
the black wire from the tail light harness to the tail light panel
make sure it's fitted and/or make sure it has a good connection

It's possible.
I have a similar bit different weird problem in my vh ss.
When i brake, the front parkers come on.
I discovered at the headlights where the two black earths (1 or parkers 1 for hi/lo beam) one of them had fallen out of the socket.
When reseated, no problem.
Point is, vb-vh commodores have loads of issues with electrical connections for headlights and tail lights (tail lights especially) I'm willing to bet that your problem is a crook earth somewhere in the light circuits.

I once owned a Vb that had every rear light globe body individually earthed to the chassis.

Was neatly done and solved the problem. The earth in the loom wasn't used.

As suggested by Codfishface, body earth.

Try fitting a new earth wire from the battery negative to the radiator support panel to which the head/parklights are attached.
