A BW diff will give you a lot more options. Find a VL 6 cyl housing and fit a 28 spline centre. Good selection of gear ratios available over the Salisbury unit.

haha.... not any more!

I know an engineering firm that has produced NEW gear sets for large Salisburys. Available in ratios-
3.08, 3.36, 3.55, 3.70 (stronger than the original A9X 3.90) think they are asking $800 or $990 inc
new bearing/repair kit

add any of them to a 4 pinion centre (few places sell that) and you end up with a very good diff...

There are no real cheap options anymore...just use 6cyl diff drive it like a normal car untill got coin saved up for something decent.

Even if you get a cheap vl housing buying new 28-31 spline billet axles & trutrac plus labour will still hurt...not quite as much as 9 inch but still exxy nowadays.
