    Hey guys.

    I have a 2005 R8 Clubsport.

Now and then when I drive, I can hear like a vibration/flapping noise coming from the general driver door/ frond guard area. Low down in that area.

It sounds almost like a thin plastic flapping in the wind. That crossed with when you have a plastic bag in a high wind. Kinda har to descride.

Doesn't seem to be constant and it randomly comes and goes but it usually occurs when I am traveling between 60kmph and 80kmph.

I did notice it today alot however and today was a very windy morning.

My first impression of the noise was that it was in the side skirt potentially, but today when I hear it I would say that i my head it sounded like there was air getting into the door and the clear plastic sheet thing was vibrating.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar noise and what the issue/solution was?

I thought it might be the indicator in the guard being loose or something, but when I fiddled with it, seemed snug and secure.

    Any ideas?

Check the inner guard plastic liner. If it is missing a couple of scrivets, it could flap aroound at one end. I experienced that in an old Camry recently.

Checked inner plastic guard... seems to be correctly fitted and no wiggle.

    Other ideas?

It's a bit hard to picture your car as it isn't standard like mine and I'm not familiar with the HSV details. What modified parts are there in that area apart from the sill panels? The inner door watershield wouldn't make that noise because it's trapped between the door and the doortrim and it's fixed pretty well with that bloody strong adhesive. Does anything rattle when you open and "shake" the door? Is the plastic corner piece that fits behind the exterior mirror sitting flush as it should?

    What size tyres are fitted?

Mine are 245 and are very close to the strut. You can actually see where it rubs on the side wall occaisionally. Where the strut is welded to the spring seat.

The ABS sensor wire can also protrude through the inner guard more than normal. This makes it very close to the tyre again.

Wheel nuts tight? Are the wheels from a VE?

Jack the front up. And spin the wheels and see if you find any unusual noise. Check for bearing play while your there.

    Nothing modifed body wise.

I haven't noticed a rattle when opening and closing the door, but I will conduct thorough testing.

    Will check mirror plastic bits.

Wheels are the the same as they fit to the VZ SSZ and Monaro so shouldn't be clearance issues. Running 235's from memory...

I will check the ABS sensor wire.

    Cheers.

You might check the black air dam thingy under the front stone tray as well. If you are missing just one pin it will flap.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I tracked it down to the plastic trim @ the bottom of the windscreen. Yeah, I was surprised too since I thought the noise was coming from alot lower!

I noticed that a little metal clip was not under the rubber seal like it should be and thus the corner of the trim was a bit loose.

Went for a drive today in both 80kmph and 100kmph zones without the noise occuring.

    So far, so good.
