    If you did a search in your car model section, you'd find a few threads on exhasuts etc..

    Even in this section there was a few P palte mod bullshit threads in the past few months. So look again.

    i was born in melton in that old hospital in south thats now a retirement home lol.

    I've had my licence for just over a year (graduated from reds to green's yesterday), and i havent had ANY issues with melton cops or any cops as of yet(touch wood). They dont even stare me down, my car isnt stock either so i guess its obviously just how you drive.

    I've also never heard of that music law in melton either lol, but i'm never in melton on the weekends anyway so i miss out on the new **** lol

    haha i know you lol. just thought id mention that.

    LOL. There are NONE about exhaust mods besides asking if it is legal to have a sports exhaust. Which is not what I'm asking. I'm asking is there a way I can make my exhaust sound nice without increasing performance. I went through all 10 pages. Not one.

    Local police know s*** all about mods. Look at the cop who pulled up my mate.. Didn't get him for anything besides 1 bald tyre.. and that wasn't from lack of trying.
    I've spoken to the cops about this stuff before. All they said was "ask vic roads"
    I just thought I could ask on here first coz cbf lining up in vic roads for over an hour to ask a question I probably won't get a proper answer to anyway.

    The only time I've been pulled over was at a booze bus for a rbt. And that was in Mornington lol..... All my mods are legal.

    Ok. First of all that is wrong.
    Explain how an aftermarket exhaust is 'not illegal' with a direct statement like that? How many times do we have to have the same argument on here again and again. P PLATERS YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE DIRECT ENGINE MODIFICATIONS. Wait until you are off your P's to do mods. If you really have to do something like an exhaust or something like that, then go for it. Cop the fine, get the canary, gain demerit points. But don't winge here.

    There is no 'legal way' to do it. An exhaust tip is about all you can do. Regardless of whether it is 0.00000001 of a kilowatt gain in power for just an exhaust, some cops might let you get away with it, some might not. It is illegal. There is no leeway in the law. Whether it is good or not, that is the way it is and that is what we must obey until it no longer affects us or until the law is changed.

    Yes you can get defected for that. and cop a fine and probably demerit points as well..

    The Vic Roads website only says:

    "From 1 July 2007, new restrictions on driving high powered vehicles were introduced for probationary licence drivers who obtained their licence from this date.

    A probationary licence holder cannot drive a vehicle if it has:

    An engine of eight or more cylinders;
    a turbocharged or supercharged engine (except diesel powered vehicles. Exemptions can apply for lower performance turbo and supercharged cars);
    an engine that has been modified to increase its performance; and/or
    any of the following high performance six cylinder vehicles as published in the Government Gazette:"

    Thats all the info it gives..
    I can't find anywhere where it says "or emissions output; and/or any aftermarket modifications directly fitted onto the engine"

    haha good call. someone please lock this thread.
    I'm just gonna go to an exhaust place and ask them if they will write out something saying its not a performance mod.

    you dont get a canarie for an exhaust without due reason
    1) you were caught being a knob or doing something silly
    2) you were smart to the police

    or at least thats the standard here in my town in NSW.

    cops here dont care if you're on your p's (same law NO performace modifications) but nearly every p plater i know who has an exhaust, for example 2.5 with extractors, no police officer even bothers with them as long as they arent a **** in their car.

    its that simple, if you dont want police attention, dont drive like a knob, and if you do want an exhaust get one, keep it a decent size and drive like a normal person, but always know you might strike the wrong police officer at an RBT or something and end up defected.

    although, another thing has struck me, you could always say "the car was like it when i got it" and just act like you didnt know it had an exhaust, i do know thats worked for a mate in sydney.

    all in all, if you believe you cant afford the fine or a replacement exhaust if you do hit the wrong cop, then dont get a bigger exhaust.:thumbsup:

    As has been stated, if you take the vicroads site exactly as it says, an exhaust system is not technically an engine mod, it's a powertrain mod without doing anything to the engine.

    That being said, that's only how it's written on the site. If you can find the actual legislation, you would know a little better, even if legalese is a bit ambiguous.

    Up here in QLD they specify that you can not drive a car "with any modifications requiring approval by someone-or-other official" this does not include headers, or exhaust, so they are both legal.

    If you tried hard enough, there may be some holes in it. You'd need the legislation as it's written though.

    Twin Tones?

    If the name implies what the horn does...then that aswell is illegal.
