got a bit of a question.

say your selling your car. you've never been in accident, but the previous owner had written the car off.

you not being a panel beater and not knowing any different you tick 'No' and the new buyer takes it to vicroads and they tell the buyer that it has been written off, can he get his money back?

i was always under the impression, in a private sale its the buyers responsibility to check the car is mechanically A1 and its history.

You would be correct Mr Jecs. It is the buyers responsibility to do a vehicle history check before purchase

Takes 2 seconds to do a check online, any buyer would be stupid not to.

you cant do that '2 second' check anymore. you have to pay.

i remember on the vicroads website you could type in VIN or plates and it would tell you if theres money owing on it or if its been in a crash.

Money to be made I guess. Can't remember it ever being free up here. Money well spent for covering your ass though.

Really?, I did it as recently as last year and if you wanted any more info, then you had to pay more....must have changed it.
