The Volswagen car ranges were named after the German names for various wind streams around the world. Golf is the German equivalent of Gulf, as in Gulfstream. Likewise Passat, though I don't know which airstream that is. Under those circumstances, I guess there could have been a Fahrt, which wouldn't need translating, but Fahrt means travel, not a wind. (shows how much they know).

Just as an aside, 5 Series BMWs, Stingers, Passats... ZBs etc are not exactly cheap cars, especially when purchased in the thousands and fitted out/decalled for police duties. Am I the only taxpayer here that's often wondered why they change them over so frequently? Is it still 24 months or 40k kms?

30 months and 60k as far as I know now ....
