G'day

My speedo has never really worked any good use to pretty much go to 60 and then that was it but now it is jammed at 70 doesnt even move with the car off. The kilometres and trip meter seem to work fine and accurate still. What could the issue be? Its plugged in at the back of the speedo.

Take it out and pull it apart "GENTLY" there's not much in them to go wrong. Chances are you'll see a stripped gear or broken spins.

Good luck

The odo is pretty much separate to the speedo needle, the odo is a physical drive but the needle is spring loaded to 0 and the cable spins a magnet and trys to pull the needle around against spring pressure.

Id say the spring has broken and jammed the needle up.

The speedo in the instrument cluster is what you need to remove & disassemble

Good point, at a guess I'd say the speedo cable..but probably better to change the whole thing. Let bus know how you go.

Pretty sure the problem will be wear. the drag cup spindle bush and/or the cradle bush have worn to the point where they lose the close tolerances and bind the drag cup and magnet.

That's usually the fault in this type of problem, and requires a full rebuild of the speedo.

So if the odo is a physical drive and if it was not working then it would be a broken gear at fault?
