Hey Everyone,

I am currently using a VN V6 alternator on the commodore rally car using the standard non A/C brakets spaced accordingly. I need to upgrade it to something bigger and I would prefer to use bigger than the VS V8 120amp alternator and was thinking of the LS1 140amp.

Im currently pulling about 90amps with fans, lights, driving lights, trip computer etc.

Has anyone successfully adapted an LS1 Alternator?

Thanks

Anthony Campbell

I have used a 100amp powermaster before which had a meltdown last year during a rally and cost me a top 5 finish oh well….

The biggest problem I found with the powermaster is that you had to rev it to start it charging, where as the bosch style with the sense wire will self ‘excite’ at idle speeds. Which is good when you first start the car and need to let it idle prior to reving it.

thats the bolt setup. its meant to go on a fixed serpentine belt assembly. so basically there is no chance of adjustment.

mate i can tell you from expierence, because the bolts are not on opposite side, youre gonna have a FKNCNT of a time with adjustments. "fluffy" is a gen 6 454, and had the same bolt setup alternator as the LS1. i fabricated about 4 different bracket in an attempt to get it to fit and swing, each time was an epic failure and wasted around 3 hours.

in the end i went with a VN series 2 80A with internal fan. if you take it to an auto elec they can tweak the reg to output more A's which is 80 bucks from memory.
