Hi

My friend have a Group A VL Commodore here in Norway, Is there anyone who have the front and rear overhang measurement on a Group A VL Commodore??
(He got the Homologation papers but there are no measurements on the overhang.)

He competed in Norwegian Championship Rallycross for about 6 years ago, and now i might help him get the car race ready again.

Hope for help, sorry for my bad english

Hi John,

How on earth did you end up with a Group A in Norway ?
The service books don't give specific measurements for the Group A but for the regular cars Holden list the front as 972mm and the rear as 1125mm.
As the basic bumpers were unchanged (except for lower additions to them) I'd say those measurement would be the same.

Hi:)

Thanks for your help.

I got his Homologation papers yeasterday and i actually found all the measurements there.

The car was built and raced in Group A in Australia before it came to Netherland and was raced in European Rallycross Championship in late 1980 i think
Then it came to Norway and maybe it was used in racing before my friend bougth it and raced it in Norwegian Rallycross Championship

Now he wants to rebuild the car and race rallycross and hillclimb again:)
(In USA they called it European style rallycross)

The engine is 5 litre with alu heads and injection
Jerico 4-speed dogbox
Volvo full floater axle (Dana 30)
Proflex suspension
Weight: 1420 inkl. driver (minimum weight for the class.)

The car was first (i belive) built by Holden Motorsport.

Im not very good with computers, but i try get some pics of the car to put here

And mabye we can get some history from the early days of the car if i get the chassis nr. of the car.

Amazing that it would pop up so far away. Any idea who was the original driver in Australia??? You might be surprised how much it's worth back here depending how much of the original car is still in tact.

The car is not in the best shape, beat up in to many rallycross battles over the years.

Home made fibreglass front and fenders, rare mix of vl and vk all around i think, and im not 100% sure its a vl yet. will get the chassis nr. tomorrow i hope.

Roof and front doors are original steel, axles are moved 50mm forward, so the fenders are reworked, rear doors and fenders in one piece.
