I'm looking at getting a good security system for my VL including completely new door locks, remote central locking and possibly remote start. Just curious what you guys have done or what you would recommend?

I'm going to be putting some money into this car so I might as well put some money into making sure it stays with me.

Cheers

Oh god, the amount of central locks, alarms and remote starts I have done in VLs! Brand wise, I always suggest anything by DEI such as viper, Clifford, python and avital to name some.

Yeah, from the limited amount of research I've done, viper look pretty good. Are you able to do remote start on auto boxes or just manual?

On auto as it has park and neutral start circuit.
Don't get solex locks though. They r poo and can easily twisted out with pliers.
Or shave it and have remote door release.

it is far easier to do a remote start on an auto then a manual.

I disagree, if the solex locks are installed right, they work very well, I've got them on my car along with a viper 791xv without the remote start, as I leave my car in gear all the time due to the handbrake not working.

My old calais had solex locks that I installed, and it did get broken into, but they had punched a hole in the door and used tin snips or something to cut around the lock then pry it out. You could see they had tried to turn it with pliers or something as the finishing cap was torn up and so was the rest of it.

Killer alarm that. I still have one laying around here that I pulled out of a car...of course I don't see them anymore as it's all the new ones, but great alarm, none the less.

all VL locks wear out and any VL key will often unlock and start any other VL

Unless you replace them. Thats what I did with my VL. Replaced all door locks, boot lock and ignition barrel with one set. I think it cost me about 180? from memory.
