Hi guys,

Its been a few years since i posted. Lol

Anyway, i have a vl gearbox that ive had since i had my vl 25 odd years ago.
When i bought it, i was told it was a geniune walkinshaw box.
Back then, the only way to know it was geniune, was to check if it had a fine toothed spline on the input shaft. It does but i think you can now buy these fine spline shafts aftermarket.
It aslo has a HDT bell housing installed.

Is there a way to check if it is geniune? Like a part number look up?
What would it be worth today if i was to sell it?
Thanks.

hmmm... HDT bellhousing for 308/4 Tri pattern blocks with a VL gearbox?
won't be a VL Walkinshaw box as they went on a std Holden Turbo bellhousing (what also got used on VN EFI 5.0s)

Could be a HDT T5G box or a later Holden T5 V8 box on a HDT bellhousing (both had fine spline input shafts)

No, i believe the VL walkinshaw had trimatic pattern and i think the first 50 odd had HDT bell housings cause HDT were the only importer of the T5G at the time.

vl group a had trimatic pattern

walkie blocks had 4 bolt caps & turbo pattern....all efi blocks got same bellhousing.

Makes more sense bellhousing came from vk or vl group a having hdt casting slag written on it...those were only t5 where shifter lined up properly in shifter hole...later t5 sat further back everyone had to have gap in console iirc

All types of different t5 boxes where need to measure input shaft, count splines & read tag info if possible just to be sure wtf it came from to be 100% of using bellhousing to suit that particular gearbox.

Lots of great info, thanks.
From memory, i was going to use it with a VL v8 block that was already in the car (original 5.0L)

Ill post some photos tomorrow if it helps.

yes, that is my understanding.. Walkie blocks were 4 bolt/Turbo pattern and so the HDT bellhousing
was not from one of those. VL Grp A carby engine cars all got the HDT embossed bellhousing
(as did VK cars that went to HDT and got the 5 speed fitted an option)

Is that turbo pattern?

More info on the 2 different bellhousing patterns.
