set up the 3.73 gears on to LSD carrier then into diff
lucky managed to get a lot of small shims
LH side: 0.185" shims
RH side: 0.190" shims
back lash: 0.007"
no grinding on pinion went straight in
thinking of getting reinforced aluminium backing plate for housing

I wouldn't bother with aftermarket diff cover, they generally create lubing problems that the original cover doesn't.

I think the pinion clearance issue is more with aftermarket centers. I'm expecting issues with my Harrop truetrac with 4.11 gears.

That's Not a problem with the aftermarket covers for These diffs. The oiling issues occur with covers that increase volume with either a kick out section or flat back. The reinforced Covers for these prevent the housing flexing and reinforce the bearing housings.

Yeah kaaz needs pinion machining I think the tru track doesn't because it's an 80 design just the original tracking width of the 78 or has different bearing cups? From what I've heard anyway.

Yep aftermarket lsd need pinion clearancing factory item should be fine.

Aftermarket covers suppose to add strength to housing, maybe even help with heat...uncertain if makes a big difference but guess it would help.

Fancy expensive ones need to machine flatspot for the bolts to press into...stingy redneck version is alloy hat off X series falcoon & trim watts linkange part of it.

Ok I thought he was getting one of those large flat back jobs, which restricts the throw to the pinion bearing, my bad.

Shouldn't the sway bar go to the front off the K frame. Not behind the rack !!

Yes, it’s back the front for now
as need to wheel the block and sump in a few times to make sure have clearance for oil pan modifications and didn’t want to stuff around with the sway bar

had to check torque of ring gear as had no way to tighten up fully on bench as vice was out of action
no left hand torque wrench
so strapped the diff down on the dolly
used BMW 32mm water pump wrench lined up perfectly on diff yoke bolt holes
used racket straps to tie down 3m length of 50x50mm tube to hold wrench on yoke
had the missus sit on the diff
then used 1/2 drive on 1m long tube to tighten (estimated)
a little crude but shouldn't come off
moved it around until all 8 LH bolts nipped up

rechecked the back lash still 0.007"
onto the backing plates, discs
