started playing with dyno5 program to see what different camshaft looks like through power/torque curve, and running program with 304ci, 348ci, and 377ci and seeing the relationship of power curve V's cubic inch
Was leaning towards hydraulic roller, however any major reason why you wouldn't install solid roller
was thinking for the sake of setting up solid camshaft clearances etc, Hydraulic roller seemed less hassle
However have been running solid flat tappets in other cars without really any hassle
what would the largest solid roller you would run on street with auto 2500 -3000 (convertor)
with 10-10.5:1 compression

build for torque or retain the merit of 304 and let it rip

Of the top of my head, 240/250 @ 50
But that might be a little too big on only 304cube.

Either way, I watched a YouTube recently (can't remember but who) and going through the numbers, and Dyno trials, he basically concluded that solid flat tappet was the better deal for anything under 280° @ .006" (go roller for anything larger)
It was a David vizard video actually come to think of it.
He explained it really well and it made sense as to why.

I'd say you're 10-10.5:1 is your limiting factor on how big you want to go cam wise. Also the intake manifold will dictate what cam suits best.

Personally, hydro roller would be my cam of choice but not something "off the shelf" from someone like crow, to me, they look very mild (slow ramp rates and only moderate lift numbers).

made decision to go solid roller, and purchased the crane lifters today, so at least one part out of the way now to look for a smallish cam

Nice. You'll need some decent rockers.

have a few sets of BBC 1.7 rockers, and may have 1.6/1.65" there from SBC.
wonder whether going 1.7 would cause any rocker geometry issues, I suppose only way to find out is when engine mocked up
focus now to sort out a cam

meanwhile finish diff, backing plates, axles in, disc rotor, brakes

Holden use the same rockers as the Pontiac motors, I don't think SBC/BBC are compatible.

had to take LSD carrier out again to align one of the side cones so axle would go the complete way in
In doing so opened up carrier and decided to take another look at side gear pressure plate. Measured them and seem the plate had warn 0.040" +/- (refer small dimple on backside of plate) , decided as carrier was open would replace with new, and throw it back together
axles now all line up
