hi all.. just new to all this.. i picked up a vg ute to get around in.. runs well considering its all gas.. my prob is when i use the aircon,, the temp goes through the roof..the car runs on 180-180F most of the time.. the fan seems to be working ok. just when i put the aircon on,, you can feel the motor really labor..anyone got any ideas on whats going on,,
    cheers

if you turn on the ac you should hear the click on the compressor. sounds like it needs a re-gas. just make sure both O rings coming off the compressor get replaced when you get it gassed, thats where they commonly fail. also if theres a transcooler mounted give it plenty of spave between it and the front mounted condenser because the heat coming off it will cook you seals, and all the gas will leak out again..... the aircon tech should give everything a once over inspection before gassing as well...

sounds a bit more serious than regassing.
if it was low on gas it'd be less load on the engine and the compressor shouldn't turn on with all the pressure switches
does it make any nasty noises? clunks, grinds?
looking through the front of the grill can you see through the condensor and radiator easily, no blocked/bent fins?
before regassing it is illegal for any ac specialist to regas a system that has leaked, valves, orings and the seal in front of the ac compressor would normally be replaced, compressor would be removed and oil level checked if taken to a proper place, i've never found a place that will simply just regas a system in the past 10-15 years

hi guys.. thanks for the info.. it doesnt really click when i turn it on,,also dont think its low on gas.. maybe to much if anything.. sat in the driveway the other day,, let it run on idle with the a/c on.. i put a dig temp gauge in the vent and lowest reading was -0.3c... bit chilly

sounds like it's working, if it had to much gas a high pressure switch would stop it from working (providing someone hasn't bypassed it) and also makes it less efficient so won't work as well.
make sure the radiator and condenser fins aren't blocked up with road grime/bugs/bent fins etc.
might pay to remove and flush the radiator also to make sure it's not crap stuck in between them as it sounds like the cooling system can't dissipate the extra heat from the condenser.

    s2 vg ute?

maybe replace the thermostat and flush the engine also before changing radiator.

$68 delivered, straight swap in no messing around if you suspect the radiator (says won't fit s1), how much gunk brown gunk came out of the radiator when you flushed it?

If your on gas and turn the ac on then the motor would strain. You loose power with gas.. When I'm using gas and ac on the car runs hotter but on petrol and ac runs cooler.. What gas system are you using?
