I'm pretty sure the bearing in my A/C pulley/clutch unit is stuffed.

With A/C on everything sounds good

With A/C off it makes a horrible whining sounds

Is it possible to take the pulley unit off? Should I take this one to the professionals?

Ok got a quote today for $160. This is for, taking off compressor, replacing bearing and re-gassing system.

Is that reasonable? Apparently you need to use a pulling tool to remove the hub so the compressor has to be taken out.
