Hey guys,

I have custom alloy drop tank to suit a vn commodore one thing I noticed is the fuel filler neck breather connection is next to the filler neck opening when standard tanks have it in the middle of the tank will this cause dramas with filling up fuel?

cheers

No, all it does is let the air out as you fill it, doesn't matter where it is.

Tank could've been built for earlier model car...either way lines will go somewhere on it to do same job.

Yes- "the fuel filler neck breather connection is next to the filler neck opening ' was pretty common before the 1970's when hydrocarbon emission controls were introduced, carbon cannisters etc. . It won't cause any dramas when filling up but you need to make sure the tank still can vent to outside somewhere when the petrol caps in place- or the engine will starve of fuel when you're running.

That is more to do with vented & non-vented caps.

There is actually a few differences between early tanks & later models...they've all got overflow hoses & lines for charcoal cannister....just differs in ways they go to filler neck/tank or filter thing cable-tied to filler neck & vents back to tank or cannister up front for engine to suck vapours out instead of atmosphere which alot of people thought it was to stop stinky fuel smell...

Several tank changes between models vb-vh n/a 6cyl,brock/sle,vk efi 6cyl,vl efi,vn-vs removable filler necks(mostly same, early vn had external pump like vl then went internal pump)

Overflow hose different sizes between early tanks & later tanks which you don't notice unless putting late model tank in early girl.

Old cars had vented caps to let fumes out, stop tank from vacuum effect or popping & sometimes fuel starve but by 77-8'ish or whatever charcoal cannisters/pollution control adrs came in

Yeah it was built for a carby fed VL found out from the old owner I have modded it so it running a complete VT MRA fuel pump assembly as inside it had baffles but no swirl pot like the old vn tank and it has 2 little outlets on each side for venting apparently
