Hi, is there a difference between the factory manual VN diff and the auto? I converted my VN to manual a while ago but now the diff is very clunky when i accelerate. I didn't change the diff. Also would a VR diff fit on a VN?

You'll find the manuals use different gear ratios to the autos

sounds like a mechanical issue, either crown wheel/pinion or lsd if it has one.

My VN SS used to "clunk" when putting into gear but i had the LSD replaced and now it's smooth and quiet and gear changes are smoother as well.

G'day Aaron. I was told the VNs all had the same ratio... 3.08, regardless of motor/box choice. I have a VL 3.45 diff in the shed, will be using those gears in the VN housing to go under my HJ. Some Frauds have the same diff in different ratios.

    hey Dave
yeah i didn't think the VN's had different ratio except for the GrpA but i'm not totally sure. I have a 3.45 gears in the SS, same as the GrpA :)

can you pm me your number? I lost it. Wouldn't mind getting a couple more bits off your calais.

    Don't think that's the case for VN-VS.

Re VR diff, VN-VS are the same, but the wagon and utes have different shock mounting points to the sedan.

That clunk could also be the uni joints in your driveshaft
