Before my VN S2 engine blew, she was luverley and had veeerrrryy nice acceleration. To get you going anyway. Since then, I have replaced it with a VR engine, why not, more compression less kays ra ra ra.. But the VN turned VRN has lost it's oomph. Before she was straight off the mark, now when you put your foot down she kinda lags and drags until you hit second, she jumps n clunks n then goes, ok! Is this a gearbox problem? Still running VN gearbox and ECU.. I know my gearbox will need replacing in the near future anyway as it did play up in reverse before, now she also likes to jump around in drive.. Grr..
The bloke accross the road has a VRN (1989 model) and he thinks it has lost it's mumbo too. He tows a van with it and says it has no guts now. Maybe not as uncommon VN - VR car engine combo as first thought. What else was changed when the motor went in? Did you keep some of the add ons like the DFI unit coils....
Weeeellllll, the plan was just to chuck a new engine in there, but in doing so we found the previous owners of my car had messed around with the engine wiring BIG TIME, bypassed fuel and exhaust and this blew my coil pack So then the whoe wiring and relay was re done.... New thermo n radiator due to overheating prob in the old engine also.
Also have replaced spark plug with new ones, spark plug leads etc and baby still don't go like she used to.
Perhaps your trany is fuxored Or the ecu doesnt like the Vr motor. They should be nearly the same as a S2 vn though, i think correct me if i am wrong. Allso i think the VR's run an electronic Tranny, Im not sure about the 6's But i know the 8's did.
VRs run abit more compression, but the VN had abit more aggresive cam, it should go better VR came out with more killa wasps. Go the VN.
Might be an electronic thing, ask Greenfoam about it he might be able to shed some light on the tuning differences between the motors
