hey guys i think my rear wheel bearings need changeing as i can move the axle part in and out a fair bit (more then what thye book says is ok ....lik a friggen lot more in and out) and when i rock the back of the car and put me hand on the wheel/s u can feel a clunk clunk type feel/noise!! was just wondering if anyone has changed these before and i have a 6 tonne press would this be strong enough to press those retainers one? (i dont think it would but want to make sure first:thumbsup cheers all
6 tonne press is fine. To remove them, hit the collar side on with a cold chisel, this loosens it and it should just fall off. Then with the suitable plates, put them under the old bearing between the hub and the bearing and press the old bearing off by pressing the shaft down through the bearing. As long as your press base adjusts low enough. Put a rag around the bearing so if it flies apart it doesn't hurt anybody. Then adjust the press back up, turn the axle over and press the new bearing and collar on. The collar will have a sharp corner and a rounded corner on the sides, the square corner goes against the bearing.
sweet thanks for the help..im just waiting for the $$ and time to do it lol however i did check them the other day (properly) and they dont seem toooo bad (have about 1mm in and out) BUT i will change them cheers again and ill keep yas posted
yeh i think the movement is in the sidewalls of the tyres....... pan hard rubbers look ok but i may replace them when i change the trailing arm bushes just to be safe as they cost bugger all thanks
