The cost of repainting and getting the trim bits right puts me off major restorations. Why would you bother when, for under $20K, you can buy a roadworthy and registered BT1 that you can drive away like this one sold recently:

Not doing a restoration, I just have a junked bt1 with a pile of decent parts and I'm going to build a different car with those parts

I wouldn't bother fixing a car with a rusted out shell... As others have said, it's better just to buy another VN all together with a good shell, and maybe a Calais since they have some softer materials... Forget things like Lane Depature Warning and upgraded lights as these cars were made before things like crumple zones became widespread, especially in less expensive cars...

Well good luck, just remember not to keep tabs on what you spend, You will quite likely spend a lot more than the car could be possibly worth. This advice is from an expert on wasting money on cars.

Lol. That’s not going to happen.
I was going clean mine before I get rego and now it’s just short of a shell with a long parts list being fulfilled.

Don’t put lane departure etc. it’s all distracting rubbish for people who can’t drive. Not only that, it can only be integrated into a car with electric steering (no hydraulics at all).

The VN is a wonderfully simple car and the pleasures of such simplicity should never be lost.

Bigger brakes all the way though.
