VN V6 TRANSMISSION Problems

My mum has a stock as VN V6 auto, that has basicly been rebuilt. Everything
on the car is new - engine, diff, cooling, elec., the LOT!

Anyway, last week, she had to get her 3rd tranny in the space of 4 years !!

At $750 each, its adding up, plus the hassle of being without wheels for afew days.

Having her doubts, the cars chassis was checked for allignment....all good !

Engine and box mounts......all good !!

Has anyone else had major probs with the TH700 ???

the quickest way to kill an auto is excessive heat but a stock car shouldn't have this problem unless someone is driving it and revving it whilst holding it with the brakes at the lights for a quick takeoff for long periods of time??

Well, im up to my 3rd gearbox. I cant say that the T700 is the best in the pack but she still goes ok...But all myne were 2nd hand gearboxes but still suposed to be ing ood condition. Rebuilt ones should be better then a new one.

It is good to keep the auto fluid as cool as possible, so even if you dont do heavy towing, racing etc you can increase the life of the tranny and efficiency by fitting an oil cooler.

3rd tranny in 4 years? That terrible, I thought you should get at least 100000km out of an auto box. Especially one as simple in design as the TH700. Might be advantageous to fit an inline filter to the oil cooler line. Which just reminded me, Maybe the cooler line in the radiator is blocked if the radiator hasnt been changed recently.

i have 2 vn's. both auto

my stockish vn.... slips. when i floor it... whole car shakes... stand still take off turning at a intersection it slips bad (slips for approx 5sec).. while driving around a corner... it drops a gear and revs out going no where

my modified vn.... fitted with stage 2 shift kit.. did run good. however i did give it a bit of a trashin as my car had nos etc back in the day and doing burn outs etc (been removed due to defect now) and blew a flex plate. fixed problem, now 60,000kms later problems found are
turning a corner it drops a gear then changes up a gear and revs a bit. never used to. few months ago while doing a 1st to 2nd gear burnout at a u turn... car struggled to stay alive.. when in neutral it was alive.... but when in gear, lights dimmed and needed to gas it to keep it alive... days later it sorted itself out.. however when in gear not moving... it rattles... very loud.

a few days ago.. did a 1st to 2nd gear skid around a large round about (approx 60-70mtrs) and now gearbox has very loud vibrations and noise... while driving... 4th is shaky.. when off acceleration... has a vibrations and sounds. while going 100km/h car shakes and vibrates in a throbbing way and gear changes are not firm and quick nemore... however raced a vy last night and it still quicker than other 6's

im in need of a new motor and box.. but no1 in my town is interested to do a rb25det or a 2jz converstion... :(

Hey guys, ive noticed that when some guy rebuilt my engine and all he didnt clip and bolt the tranny oil lines to the engine properly and they're kinda loose and they lean/rub on my pacemakers headers, could this be ****ing my tranny!

Possibly as the tranny fluid should be as cool as possible and the exhaust would (obviously) heat it up. Also you dont want it to rub thru and set the fluid alight.

This sounds just like my old tranny just before it died. Reved and wouldn't move dropped gears and then lost gears 3-4. I could be going down the road and if it went into 3rd it would just rev out and not move.

Also your vibrations i think are common with many V6's. I had at times a bad vibration straight through the car it shook all over the place. Sometimes when going hard it vibrated and sometimes slowing down and going around a corner it would vibrate really bad when pulling away in 2nd. I had a crack in the tailshaft and once replaced no more vibrations. Most of the tailshafts in the V6's get out of balance easy to.
