If your engine lamp has come on or you want to know if any faults have been loged in your ecu this is the best way to D.I.Y and save money and time
taking it to someone like me (mechanic).
1)Find the diagnostic plug located behind the left hand (passanger) kicker pannel that looks like this>View attachment 21125
2)Now with the ignition off bridge terminal A to terminal B shown in the pic above with a jump wire (a split pin works just as good)
3)Turn the ignition on but dont start
4)Now the check engine lamp will start to flash pay attention as you will need to count the flashes
5)The flashes work as folows:the first lot represent 'tens' the second lot represnt 'ones' there is a 1 sec pause between 'tens' and 'ones'
eg> flash flash....pause....flash flash flash equals code 23
6)Each code will display 3 times with a 3 second pause between codes
Code translations:
12: system pass no codes
13: oxygen sensor circuit (open)
14: coolant temp sensor circuit (low volts)
15: coolant temp sensor circuit (high volts)
21: throttel position sensor ciruit(high volts)
22: throttel position sensor ciruit(low volts)
23: manifold temp sensor circuit (high volts)
24: vechle speed sensor circuit
25: manifold temp sensor circuit(low volts)
33: manifold absolute pressure sensor circuit(high volts)
34: manifold absolute pressure sensor circuit(low volts)
41: distrubtor reference input
42: electronic spark timing circuit
44: oxygen sensor ciruit (lean)
45: oxygen sensor ciruit(rich)
51: memcal fault
55: ecm analogue to digital conversion error
if the engine lamp was on prior to doing this you should clear the codes then take the car for a long drive about 10k and do the test again
to clear the codes turn ignition off and remove jump wire open the bonnet next to/above the battery you will find two black fuse boxes open the SMALL one and remove the engine fuse (the one closest to the passenger side of the car) for about 10 seconds then replace the fuse and try the test again to make sure you have removed the codes.you should have code 12 come up
test finished
any questions ask and i will answer to the best of my ability
