fuel tank nice and clean, washed out, etched with rustblaster, used vacuum cleaner reverse hose with blowing into tank through the fuel filler pipe to dry tank for 1-2 hours, managed to get the tank up to 31 C temperature so flashed all moisture off
Taped on the sender hole in tank, and, placed vacuum cleaner into tank again and managed to blow out a dent in tank
used AC 350/B 1/2 epoxy to seal the few rust holes in tank
then used 1 litre of internal tank sealer
tanks has come up well, could drink out of it myself

Now need a VN fuel sender and to replace the 2 * pumps and hoses
then give the old girl a coat of paint

then move onto the fuel lines from tank to engine bay

Final scrub down
Another acid etch on outside
Wash, acetone wipe down
Ahh some colour

just needs a fuel sender to match the good looks and moving on to next project

starting at rear of VN and moving forward

You want to keep them in mind for future work- wreckers with good supplies of VN-VP parts are hard to find these days.

actually comparing the existing VN fuel pickup and the replacement one delivered
exactly same except my exiting fuel send has provision for 2 pumps (inside tank and external ) and the replacement sender looks to be one high pressure inner tank pump
so assuming I'll juts splice the wires from old to replacement sender to run the existing wiring and twin pumps on the replacement sender this way keeps everything wiring wise the same
Interesting both picks length, float, position same with the exception of hose connection is 180 degrees out, one hose on left and the other right

this maybe the tell tale for identifying the fuel pumps senders which are external to the tank and minus wiring
- if hose connection to sender is on right hand side: its twin pump setup
- if hose connection to sender is on left hand side: its single pump in tank

that replacement sender seems to be a vn v6 position with a high pressure pump,
from memory the vg v8 ute also had pipe in the same direction on the sender, also single pumps only came out with later vp series 2 to vr's same year in 93 and perhaps late vq series 2.
Just read the date stamp on the inside mechanism of float, at least will tell year of manufacture.
