Voltage Jumps in Commodore VZ 2005

Hello Guys, Today when i was driving my commodore suddenly the voltage jumped to 16+ V and all the cluster lights disappeared, Air con off , Radio off , even Headlights went off. The battery is jst 8 months old. I am confused is my battery is bad or my alternator ??? Guys pls help.

Alternator. It should be at roughly 14 volts if running

Even today while i was driving it reached 17 V. Is it possible due to grounding ?? or my alternator need to be replaced :(

internal fault, short in either windings or diodes, should max out at 14.6 14.8v tops (absolute max) your battery will be boiling let alone what its doing to everything else
