I have a VP 5 speed manual gear box which seems to be generating a lot of heat. I want to check the fluid level in the box to make sure it has not run low on fluid - how do I check the fluid level in the gear box?

There will be a big nut on the side of it, undo that, the oil should be level with the bottom of the hole. Make sure the car is level when you check it. Undo the plug slowly, if oil starts weeping out when you have nearly got it undone, it will be fine.
