My friend and myself are converting his VR from v6 manual to auto v8. Will the loom from the v8 (out a vp Calais) work in the VR? Or would he have to track down some VR wiring loom?

at minimum the vr loom will have a plug for the electric trans selector, where as the vp is a kick down cable. not sure if thats wired up to the dash loom or body loom. ive never stripped down a vr... the engine loom will pass over to the passenger foot wells computer, all the other stuff will have to connect up at the engine bay fuse box area....

someone on here will have an answer for you if thy can be bothered replying... i dont have any experience with 5litres.

^ Yeah pretty much the major difference will be the wiring for the VR gear box.

yeah mate its possible, just need to run the vn/vp v8 engine wiring loom.
and then need to either make up a patch loom for all three connectors that attach to the engine loom, (under dash next to ecu, and 2 behind strut tower (in vr/vs's))
then you'll also need to use the vn/vp auto loom and drill a hole to get the speedo sensor and trans wires up to connect to the ecu.

im running a full vs berlina s2 loom in my vn with a manual trans and vn engine loom and ecu.
send me a pm if u need some help and im sure we can work something out :).
    Andrew.

I thought you couldn't convert engines from an older model into a newer car?

yes that is correct, however as the 304 pretty much didn't change from vn-vt aside from a roller cam and a few different things, vicroads doesn't seem to have an issue with you putting them in. But you couldn't go from ecotec to buick v6's.
