My poor old car got broken into the the other night. In a well-lit, security patrolled car park :(

The pricks forced the boot lock and tried to start the car by pulling the plastic part off the back of the ignition barrel and trying to start it with a screwdriver. Proves how pointless the ignition barrel on a VP is :p Luckily, the Calais' security system stopped them getting away with it.

Anyways, I need some tips on replacing both the boot lock, and ignition barrel. Anyone had to do it, if so how'd ya go about it???

    Cheers, Cogez

any ignition barrel isnt really that hard to defeat. you think the VP barrel is bad? take a look at the older cars.. you can open the door and start my mates dads HX tonner with a plain flathead screwdriver. can also open his LJ toranas door with a plain flathead screwdriver.

Barrel isnt ahrd to do, you need a a small allen key or nail or somthing thin and longish.

Turn your key to "on" there is a hole, about 5CM from the key entry back along the barrel towards the wiring side facing you, put the nail in there and the parrel should slide out. Its fiddly, takes abit of practices. How it works is there is a spring clip on the barrel and the nail pushes this clip down so it can side out of the cyclinder.

Ebay sell replcaements for $50. Brand newies too!

It must be on "on" for it to work or the spring clip wont line up with the access hole.

    aZk.

That's only because the locks are worn out, they didn't come from the factory with screwdriver locks :p

Don't just replace the barrel, the housing will be cracked or broken and the steering lock probably won't work properly, buy the new housing from holden. New barrels for all the locks from ebay about $80. door and boot locks are real easy.(works out cheaper to replace the lot with 2 new keys from ebay than getting new ignition barrel and then rekeyed.)

Yeah had to replace mine when my car got stolen. I got my dads mate to do mine because i also put a metal jacket around it. I was watching and it didnt look too hard. But yeah cant give any advice. Only advice is i would recommend a metal jacket. its also a visual deterant too because the part you put the key in, is chrome and chunky so if a thief walks past they can see that i have a metal jacket.

I got mine off a wrecked vn. so not sure where you could get one. But there so time consuming getting it off one car and onto another because when you 1st put them on, they have these torque bolts, so the 1st time you bolt it up, the bolt heads snap off when they get to a certain torque. It took a couple hours with some vicegrips to try undo it.
