My vp calais has done 250,000 kms and has been sitting for the past 12 months. Started it up last week and everything was OK until about 15 minutes into the trip when the oil light came on. Checked the sump and plenty in it. Started getting tappety so I put some oil in the rocker cover and got home. Took it to a mechanic and they flushed the oil then changed it. Said its got low oil pressure. This also happened about 4 years ago and on this occasion I had it flushed a few times and the mechanic said I was using castrol gtx2 and this is crap oil and has clogged up the oil galleries etc and no oil was getting to the lifters. Changed the type of oil and never had another problem until it has sat for the past 12 months. Is this issue a problem with this engine? Would the current low oil pressure be a faulty oil pump? (I hope so) or is my engine stuffed? My wife loves the car, it is in immaculate condition (anthricise coloured) after a full respray 4 years ago and I would hate to see it wrecked for parts or would it be worth anything to sell?

It is a problem with the 304 and certain oils that make cronic sludge (gtx2) is a well known offender. I will most likely be the pickup sludged up, You might have no option but to take the motor out and clean it. I managed to cure mine with thin oil, flushes and high degtergent oils but it does take along time to slowly clean the oil galleries

maybe lift the engine and drop the sump so you can clean it and oil pickup. then try again. i'd start with adding another oil flush and letting it run for a while (idle only), change oil again and see what happens. for a V8 you could probably use 2 bottles of engine oil flush, one bottle gets too diluted. i assume the oil filter was also changed?

Thanks for the replies. The filter was changed and I will buy two bottles of flush and try this first. Thanks for the tip re the sump and pick up. I will also try that.

Dave run some of that nulon oil flush for 15 minutes idling dump your oil and for your next oil run Mobil delvac, then pray that it cleans out all your oil galleries and pickup :)

    never use that castrol ****
used it once had no choice coz they had no penrite

i been using Penrite since i got my car 2 years ago and never had a problem.
i used Penrite 20-50 but now i tried 15-60 Semi-Synthetic and im happy with it.. as foam quoted use the Nulon stuff helps heaps as i had some build up in my rockers . or u could use some Diesel (exactly the same as Nulon engine flush) .and let it idle for around 15-20 as the others said then dump the oil
    hope this helps
