vp commodore hard starting

i have a vp v6 commodore 1992 auto,when you driving around the temp gauge sky rockets, and its very hard to start,
any ideas on what might be the problem?

I had a 93 vp exec with similar problem it turned out to be stuffed radiator does your leak a bit of coolant as well?

It's the Crank Angle Sensor. Mine does the same thing. I'm not 100% sure but I think the harmonic balancer needs to be removed to replace it.

Yes, with VN series II motor onwards, the harmonic balancer does need to be removed to get to the CAS. It's a relatively easy job to do, providing you have a gear puller or something similar to remove the harmonic balancer.

what i did to check mine is drive around till its warm, then stop and turn the car off, try start it and it doesnt, then i got out with a spray bottle and cooled the crank angle sensor then tried again and it started, also i had to take my harmonic balancer off to get to my crank angle sensor and i have a series 1

u have to remove the harmonic balancer to get to the cas. but i didnt need a gear puller to get mine off it just slipped off
