Hi All, my Vp Commodore ,passenger side electric mirror has stopped working, before I go nuts looking anyone had the same issue.
Try cleaning and greasing the switch with carbon conductive grease as a start, on a VR this is the most common issue with mirrors not working, I'd day VP would have much the same problems.
My passenger side mirror will adjust up and down but not out and in. Been like that for over 10 years. I've cleaned and lubricated the switch as Losh suggests above but to no avail. I haven't gone any further in trying to fix it. Too many other problems keep cropping up demanding attention. The current project is painting the roof cos the paint has gone so far that bare metal is showing and rust is setting in. Should get to the sagging head-lining after that. Sigh. Should have listened to my friend who said,"Never get emotionally involved with a car". Too late.
Funny you mention that Rob, my left mirror does a similar thing. I doubt mine is the switch as it works in one direction. It's a bit of work getting the AC vents off so I can remove the mirror and swap it over. Just putting up with it for now. I'd like to buy white mirrors so am waiting until I have spare coin and will replace both probably.
Our cars from new had poor contacts. Electrical conductive grease as losh said is good as is twisting wiring a little. I've owned my VN since 94 and first saw this issue on tail lights. Twisting the loom puts the conections at slight angle making for better contact and gets things to work. For mirrors I bought new switch but still no good. Only when i put NO OX ID grease and twisted wires did i get a result. As for green LED I've only seen it work intermittently a few times over last 26 years lol Just a couple of turns on loom from switch to connection is enough. Use through car when required. Let us know good luck.
I'd try breaking as many of the applicable plugs and sockets as I could get to, check them with a multimeter for a 12V signal if you have a multimeter, clean the connectors with contact cleaner and reassemble.
