Vp conversion help

Hi all , why do I have to change the computer from an auto one to manual one when doing a 5 speed conversion a vp Comme .

The automatic ECM controls the torque converter clutch There must be ways of bridging out the input and output signals you don't need with a manual- probably documented in the past somewhere in this forum- if the links are still active.
