went for a drive today and the gauge was fine - had about 1/2 tank... parked and then came back when i started up again i noticed it had gone down a bit... then as i kept driving it started diving down - i freaked and stopped to check i wasn't leaking fuel... the gauge ended up stopping just above one half of a quarter tank - i put in another 30 litres almost straight away but the gauge didn't move
i've checked a few other posts but noone seems to have the same problem as me where they actually saw the gauge freefall (sorry if it's already covered - pls just direct me to where) so it's not a sticky gauge
was i just lucky (or unlucky) enough to actually witness something to do with the guage kick the bucket?
be very greatful if anyone can help me identify what it was and if i can fix it myself? - not too shabby fixing little things... i'd rate myself about a 4 on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being 'where's the oil go again?' and 10 being a 'yep, i successfully attached the front my old cooper s to the back of a cherokee and doesn't she purr'
