2019 LC Sahara TTDV8, 1991 VP Calais V8
Hello,

This is my first post in these forums.

I am looking at buying my parents VP HSV enhanced Calais. The badge thing on the dash reads "HSV VP Enhanced #056". The HSV plate on the firewall states that the model is "E.W.B."

Do any of you guys know what this means?

As for insurance, my parents had it insured as an SV91 (it looks very similar, same blue paint colour), when clearly its not. Should I insure it as a VP v8 Calais, or go to a specialist insurance firm?

My last quote from NRMA for insurance as a SV91 was around 6K for comprehensive, which, is not very appealing.

Thanks people.

You really should wait for more than a day for people to reply . Give it a week before you post a follow up message as these forums aren't extremely active. They're not bad, just not heaps active that's all.

You should find out quotes for as many different cars as you can - have a look on the NRMA website on their estimate form. See if you can find anything out on there.

I would be writing a letter to HSV, if you prove you own the vehicle, provide the VIN number and any other relevant information they will notify you of your cars history. Thus helping you insure it for what it is. I'm guessing it's similar to my old VS SS which was HSV enhanced and plated. It was insured for what it was 'a HSV enhanced VS SS', I don't even think I paid anymore than a normal SS.

As far as I know HSV only produced (not enhanced) the following vehicles in the VP Range

Sept. 91' VG HSV LS Ute
Oct. 91' VP Sport Wagon
Oct. 91' VP Club Sport
Oct. 91' VP SV91
March 92' VP Maloo Ute
Feb. 92' VP HSV+SIX (92)
April 92' VP Senator
April 92' VP Senator 5000i
April 92' VQ Statesman 5000i Series II
July 92' VP Nitron
Sept. 92' VP GTS
Sept. 92' VQ Statesman SV93
Nov. 92' VP GTS V6 (Released for the NZ domestic market)
March 93' VP HSV+6
May 93' VP Formula
May 93' VP Club Sport 5000i

Cheers and g'luck

hello,
firstly can not realy help you on the enhanced side,
only suggestion would be to phone your local H.S.V. dealer and quote your vin number, as all H.S.V. vechiles and enhanced one's are kept on record.
Secondly on insurance neither wonder it will cost you that much as a SV91 is a completely different car .
Option A go bac and tell your insurance it's a VP Calia HSV Enhanced
and go from there
Option B Keep it insured under your parents name just change the
driver details on the insurance, the ony thing that should
change will be a slight increase in preuims or your excess
should increase.
hope this helps....

Thanks guys,

I rang HSV and fed them the VIN. Basically, its a Calais with a HSV enhancement pack (Formula body kit, hsv suspension kit, hsv wheels, 180kW engine, and all hsv badging). They made a batch of approx 200, but never made it into a designated HSV model, therefore its not recognised as a HSV even though it has HSV plastered all over it and has a HSV build plate on the firewall.

Which, is sort of good news for me, 'cos I won't be paying the huge premiums that come with these cars. I got a quote from Just Cars which seems right. I told them what it had (including sunroof, stereo, powerchip, extractors and exaust) and they asked me the replacement cost of the accessories. They also asked for service records because it only has 103,000km on it, but all the kilometres are acounted for.

Now its time to look forward to driving the thing.

Cheers

Glad you go it sorted out. I thought insurance would be the same as my old HSV enhanced SS, least it's affordable.

Sounds like a mint ride, look after it and enjoy

Finally, another owner!

Mine is Imperial Blue with standard Calais trim, bodykit and SV5000 wheels. I will post a pic if I can.

The trouble with insuring it as a V8 Calais is that it's not any cheaper than if I insured it as a HSV enhanced Calais, an plus I get a higher market value (but its still not much though).

I fell I am getting ripped on insurance with the market value, even though I now have the letter of authenticity to prove what it is.

Cheers
