Hey guys, i have an auto 1992 VP commodore, and in the last month or so, when i start my car up when the engine is cold, it idles for about a minute and a half then cuts out, then i can turn it over again and it will idle for the same amount of time then the engine cuts out again so i need to sit in it and holds the rev's up a little bit for a while to keep it from cutting out (does it about 2 or 3 times then is fine), BUT while it is idling (before it cuts out) the engine seems to rev itself a little bit like there is more fuel being pumped into it, then less, then more, it doesnt rev it self HEAPS but it does it a few times while it's idling and it revs itself to about 1500rpm roughly. And also when i drive off in first it seems to struggle like its not getting enough fuel with the foot gently on the accelerator (say around 1500 - 2000rpm) but then if you put the foot down a little more and get it to around 2000 - 2300rpm roughly the car boosts a bit (feels like the boost you from extractors but a bit more violent) and drives great like it had a bigger flow of fuel shoved into it (which it did). And it doesnt cut out stationary at the lights or when im driving, only when i first turn it over when the engines cold, and sometimes it struggles in first and sometimes it doesnt. I figured the fuel pump is on it's way out (can anyone confirm?) so i went and bought a brand new bosch high pressure in tank pump kit, but has anyone heard of this happening or had it happen to them before?? Any help would be appreciated
mate could be alot of things .... leaking o rings on injectors, coolant temp sensors , loose hose running to throttle body , fuel pressure sender , blocked fuel filter , blocked injectors , stuffed airfilter, need new spark plugs or leads , kick down cable needs quick adjusting if its auto. If your engines old and trans old then you cant expect to much from the old girl. fuel pumps usually show signs of failure when less fulls in the tank or they overheat. Ive spent a fortune on my car keeping it running like new so good luck mate...
