Got to get a new antenna cos the old one is busted. Are they specific to that car or can you get ones that will fit almost anything including them? I ask because the surface they go on is curved, not flat.
Today I cut the broken bit off and shoved a 3 foot length of welding rod about 1 foot down the guts and put a little plastic cap on top. All is well.
Mmmm.... s'okayish. I just listen to ABC AM talk radio. At low signal levels there is a little bit of ignition noise so I'll have to get onto that, but basically it's okay. I like listening to the car more than I do to the radio though.
interesting reply. I put up a question a while ago asking for assistance in dealing with interference (ignition noise?) while listening to radio national on the AM network. Didn't get much assistance other than suggestions that I get a better head unit. If you have any clues on improving AM reception then I am receptive to them. cheers
Make sure: there is a condenser from coil + to engine (not body) engine is grounded to body via short, reasonably thick wire. bonnet is grounded to body same method plug wires and coil-to-dist wire run along metal surface of engine where possible rather than in mid-air antenna is attached tight to body rather than all loose like mine condenser from alternator output stud to alternator case to stop whiny sound.
Also make sure plug wires are kept away from normal wiring loom to reduce sending noise into the whole show. Have seen some cars with an earthing strap from the radiator to body but that might be a corrosion (electrolysis) thing, but it couldn't hurt.
