The handbrake on a friends sedan is not holding, you put it on and the handle sometime just drops or knock it. I'm told the ratchet is warn. I checked in the handbook I've got and theres nothing in there about it, searched the posts on this site and got nowhere. What needs replacing so I can get one from the wrecker, I have not taken one apart before so I'm not certain what to look for or replace. Can anyone help?. thanks

Could be one of three things, it will either be the toothed bracket that is worn, the spring in the handle, or the ratchet itself that has worn. You need to remove the console to get at it.

Thanks, does just pull out under the car? or do you need to do something else after removing the 2 bolts?

I had this prob on my VP.

All it took to fix mine was to wrestle the rubber handgrip down further so the button stuck out more.

Guessing that the rubber handgrip was stopping the button from popping out completely.

Might not be the case with yours.
